Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Is In The Earthquake Zone: From Search And Rescue To Hot Meals And Bread...

With 2,847 staff and 453 vehicles, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality is helping earthquake victims with mobile bakeries, mobile kitchens, tents and crisis solution centers. A total of 540 trucks were sent with the relief supplies collected from our citizens, and 124 trucks of drinking water were also sent to the earthquake zone. The Ankara Fire Department, which took an active role in search and rescue operations, rescued a total of 420 people.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which mobilized all its units after the two earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, which affected 10 provinces, continues to heal the wounds of citizens in the earthquake zone and support search and rescue operations.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has established a crisis solution center in the earthquake zone with all its units. 2,847 staff and 453 vehicles including trucks, cars, construction equipment and funeral vehicles are in the earthquake zone as of February 11.

420 CITIZENS RESCUED BY OUR TEAM

After the earthquake, 420 citizens were rescued from the collapsed buildings under the coordination of the Ankara Fire Department and the Earthquake Risk Management and Urban Development Department.

In addition, ANFA General Directorate, ASKİ General Directorate (water authority), Department of Rural Services and Department of Urban Planning also took part in search, rescue and field support activities. ANFA Security staff was also deployed to ensure security in the region. The Department of Construction Tenders continues to support operations in the earthquake zone with 290 construction equipment and 610 staff.

HOT MEAL SUPPORT ALL DAY LONG

Belpa, one of the subsidiaries of the Metropolitan Municipality, provides 3 meals of soup and hot food in 11 mobile kitchens, and another subsidiary (Halk Ekmek) produces 6,500 pieces of bread daily in earthquake zone with 2 mobile bakeries. In addition, Halk Ekmek has so far supplied 350,000 breads from Ankara to the earthquake zone, and gluten-free products are also sent to the region for celiac disease patients.

540 TRUCKS OF RELIEF SUPPLY and 124 TRUCKS OF WATER

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has sent 540 trucks of relief supplies to the earthquake zone with the help of their citizens since February 6.

124 trucks were sent to the region for drinking water, which is among the urgent needs.

A total of 137 generators and 1,217 heaters were sent to the region to support citizens to keep warm in cold weather conditions.

36 PEOPLE WERE IDENTIFIED WITH LIFE DETECTORS

The ASKİ General Directorate has also been supporting the works in the earthquake zone since the first day. ASKİ repairs water line breaks in the region and contributes to rescue efforts by listening to collapsed buildings with life detectors devices.

ASKİ teams provided clean water to the Malatya Education and Research Hospital with mobile purification devices.

HEALTH AND CLEANING SUPPLIES

ANFA and Urban Planning Department continue their cleaning activities against the risk of epidemics that may arise in the earthquake zone.

In addition, several health supplies such as disinfectants, masks, injectors, surgical gloves, painkillers and ointments, first aid kits and diapers were sent to the regions. Health supplies and stocks are regularly updated in case of a shortage.

ANIMALS WERE NOT FORGOTTEN

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality did not forget the cats and dogs in the earthquake zone. Food support was also sent to the region for street animals.
