Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Is In The Earthquake Zone With All İts Units

As part of the mobilization efforts started by Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer to quickly heal the wounds of the earthquake disaster coordination centers were established in Hatay, Osmaniye, Adıyaman and Kahramanmaraş. In 13 days, 288 trucks, 3 planes, 3 ships and 5 buses of relief supplies were delivered to the region. Hope Movement and One Rent One Home campaigns were launched to support the earthquake-affected people.

The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality started a solidarity campaign for the earthquake zone that affected 10 provinces, and it is getting stronger every day. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which established disaster coordination centers in Hatay, Osmaniye, Adıyaman and Kahramanmaraş, continues to heal the wounds of the earthquake with all its units in the field. In the first 13 days of the earthquake, 288 trucks, 3 airplanes, 3 ships, 5 buses and relief supplies were delivered to the earthquake zone. The number of donations reached through the "Hope Movement" and "One Rent One Home" campaigns is constantly increasing.

COORDINATION CENTERS WERE ESTABLISHED

Mayor Tunç Soyer wants to create a "satellite municipality" that will include all departments of the Metropolitan Municipality. The first of the centers were established in Hatay. The earthquake wounds continue to be recovered in the earthquake zone, which includes units such as logistics, a mobile kitchen, a playground for children, an infirmary connected to Eşrefpaşa Hospital, construction tender centers, a repair and maintenance station, and an internet spot.

CONTAINERS FOR EMERGENCY HOUSING ARE BEING ESTABLISHED

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which sends a mobile kitchen for 10,000 meals a day, has also started to establish tent cities in earthquake zone. The Metropolitan Municipality, which opened the tent city built on 26 decares of land in Hatay to service 1,248 earthquake victims, started container production in three separate areas, two in Izmir and one in Hatay, to solve the sheltering problem. The containers, which are prepared in the facilities of the Department of Construction Tenders and ESHOT General Directorate in Izmir and sent to Hatay for the use of earthquake victims. Among 11 metropolitan municipalities, Izmir is in charge of general disaster coordination in Osmaniye, where a container city for emergency housing with 200 households will be established by the beginning of March. There will be 232 containers in the container city for emergency housing to be built on a 16-acre area in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş.

IZMIR METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY ESTABLISHES A FIELD HOSPITAL IN HATAY

Among the nearly 1,000 staff sent by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality to operate in the earthquake zone, there are also medical teams from Eşrefpaşa Hospital. At the infirmary in the coordination center established in the Hatay Expo area, doctors continue to provide medical examinations and treatment, while also carrying out prevention activities against epidemics. Preparations are also ongoing to establish a field hospital with mobile surgery in the area.

AGRICULTURAL SUPPORT HAS ALSO STARTED

Mayor Tunç Soyer said that they are also taking action for rural development in the region. Stating that the support provided to small producers in Izmir with the vision of "Another Agriculture is Possible" will also be applied in Osmaniye, Mayor Soyer called on farmers to become a cooperative. Soyer emphasized that feed support will also continue in order to preserve animal husbandry in the region.

SOLIDARITY IS GROWING

“Hope Movement”, the campaign launched by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, receives donations from individuals and organizations, for the most urgent needs in the earthquake zone, such as food, tents, sleeping bags, blankets, hygiene packs, boots, coats etc. Through the Municipality’s extensive supply chain including a large support center in Hatay, and three coordination centers in Adıyaman, Osmaniye, and Kahramanmaraş; all the donated items are being distributed to people and places needing them most.

The “One Rent One Home” campaign is a platform connecting people who lost their homes with those who want to provide rental support or make a vacant house available for usage. It was established by the NGO called Needs Map and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, in cooperation with the Hatay and Adana Metropolitan Municipalities located in the earthquake zone.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will pay the 3-month electricity and water bills of the earthquake victims who have settled with the One Rent One Home campaign in Izmir. Also, earthquake victims are not charged additional fees for water subscription procedures.

METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY SUPPORTS EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS ALSO IN IZMIR

Earthquake victims who came to Izmir are also staying in the Metropolitan's facilities in Buca and Örnekköy. The Department of Social Projects and the Department of Social Services identify the needs of the citizens and a Psychosocial Support Team of 100 people consisting of psychologists, sociologists, social staff and pediatricians is also working. Earthquake victims who are settled in the houses are provided with 3 meals, 24-hour hot water, laundry, clothing, hygiene and food support.
